Closed Periods
(1) All residence halls (except Mayflower and Hillcrest) are closed after the end of the first semester examination week and reopen at 8:00 a.m. the Saturday preceding the opening of second semester classes. Those students who lived in Mayflower or Hillcrest first semester and will continue to do so under valid contract for the spring semester are the only persons who may stay in their respective buildings during this closed period.
(2) Halls are closed during the interim period between the end of the regular academic year and start of the summer session. Residence halls are also closed after the last scheduled class of the eight-week summer session until the subsequent academic year.
(3) You may remain in the building and occupy the room during Thanksgiving and spring vacation periods at no additional charge. Only contract residents are permitted in the residence halls during vacation periods. No services or meals are provided during these periods, and building facilities will be closed.
Room and Board Billing
At the beginning of each semester, all items you have contracted to pay (tuition, fees, room and board, etc.) will be billed in full. Bills are paid at the University of Iowa Community Credit Union, IMU. Your $100 advance payment will be credited to your first bill.
Hawkeye Dollars
Each room contract includes 200 Hawkeye dollars ($100/semester).
Hawkeye Dollars may be used at the washers, dryers and select vending machines in the residence halls, as well as Burge Market Place, Hillcrest Market Place, Art Building West, Pat's Diner, Law School Canteen, Dental Science Building Filling Station, Main Library, EMRB, MERF, Lindquist Center, and in the IMU (River Room Cafeteria, Java House, Union Station, Union Market, the Hawkeye Room). Hawkeye Dollars will expire upon termination of the cardholder's active affiliation with the University of Iowa as a current student, faculty, or staff member, or upon twelve (12) months of inactivity in the account, whichever comes first. The contract holder may apply for a refund of unused Hawkeye Dollars when their affiliation with the University of Iowa ends. Refunds will carry a $20 refund processing fee that will be deducted from the balance.
Meal Plan Rates
All students living in residence halls, with the exception of Mayflower and Parklawn, must have a Basic-Fare Board Plan.
