-I-
ID Cards

Your University ID is important in the residence halls as well as on campus. You must show your ID for the following:

  1. Market Places, Fitness Center, and ITC admittance.
  2. Checking out keys.
  3. Picking up special-delivery parcels, certified and registered mail, packages, and flowers at the 24-hour desk.
  4. Checking out housekeeping items and other equipment such as moving carts and athletic equipment. (Some equipment check-outs may require student government membership.)
  5. Board changes/cancels and contract cancellations.
  6. For identification in security, emergency, or discipline situations, University ID cards should be carried at all times and must be shown on request by University officials.

Failure to show your ID when requested may result in disciplinary action.

If you lose your ID card, a new card can be obtained at the Iowa One Card Office located at 3 Jessup Hall, 335-0835. There is a charge for this service.

Information Desks (24 hour)

All residence hall complexes have an information desk that serves as a primary source of services and information for residents. Among services available are general information, work order forms, mail and floral delivery, and temporary keys.

DDesks are open 24 hours a day with a few exceptions. During winter break, only the Mayflower and Hillcrest desks are open. During Thanksgiving and spring breaks, at least one 24-hour desk in each neighborhood will remain open.

There are a variety of items available for checkout at the 24-hour desks, including recreational and housekeeping equipment and other miscellaneous items. Check with your 24-hour desk to see what is available. See desk phone numbers located on front inside cover. Hall government membership may be required to use some equipment.

Insurance

The University does not provide insurance for student belongings. Students and/or their parents should consult their current homeowner's policy to determine if a student's belongings are covered through a current policy. A renter's insurance policy can be purchased as part of a homeowner's policy or you can purchase insurance through companies specializing in property insurance for college students.

The University does not assume any liability for loss, damage, or theft to the personal property of the resident, except as may be caused by negligent acts of its employees. If you believe that a loss was due to negligent acts, contact your area coordinator.

ITCs (Computer Labs)

Instructional Technology Centers (ITCs) are located in Quad, Mayflower, Currier, Hillcrest, and Burge. ITCs are equipped with PCs, Macintoshes, scanners and printers connected to the University network.

You must have a HawkID to use ITC computers. Currently enrolled students can obtain a HawkID through Web ISIS at isis.uiowa.edu.

Some ITCs also have room for small-group study sessions. Modified tables are provided in all locations for students who use wheelchairs; in Burge, special computers are provided for students with visual disabilities.

All residence hall ITCs are open 24 hours a day.
