All residence halls (except Mayflower and Hillcrest) close at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19,
2009 and reopen at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010. Only residents of Hillcrest and
Mayflower with a legitimate reason for staying are allowed to stay in those buildings during winter
break. Residents are not permitted in the buildings during winter semester break to care for plants
or fish, nor can residence hall staff assume any responsibility for their care.
You may remain in the building and occupy your room during Thanksgiving and spring
vacation periods at no additional charge provided you have a legitimate reason for staying. No
services or meals are provided during these periods; however, there will be at least one 24-hour
desk open in each neighborhood. (During winter break, only Mayflower and Hillcrest desks are
open). Only contract residents (no overnight guests) are permitted in the residence halls during
these vacation periods.
Halls close for the academic year at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2010 and remain closed
during the interim period between the end of the regular academic year and the start of the
summer session. Residence halls are also closed during the interim period between summer
session and the subsequent academic year. For an additional charge, housing may be available to
students who are registered for the next school session and have received an assignment.
Residents should contact Contracts and Assignments, 4141 Burge Hall to make those housing
arrangements.
Open Flame
Incense, candles (lit or unlit), and any open-flame items are fire hazards and are
therefore prohibited. Any incense or candles found may be confiscated, destroyed and
disciplinary sanctions may be imposed. Storage of these items is prohibited; residence
life staff will not store these items for you.
Outside Doors
For your safety, outside entrances are locked minimally at midnight each night and unlocked at
6:30 a.m. You have been issued a key/card to open main doors. Telephones have been placed at
each building's main entrance to allow your visitors to contact you during periods when the doors
are locked. Do not prop open outside entrance doors. When locked doors are propped open, hall
security is compromised as non-residents are allowed to enter at will. If you see a locked door that
has been propped open, close it.
